The Philippine Science High School - Caraga Region Campus conducted a webinar on Data Privacy and CyberSafety in Online Distance Learning last March 23, 2022 at 1:00PM-5:00PM via Zoom.

The webinar was conducted to increase PSHS-CRC employees’ knowledge of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, to raise awareness about data management, and to develop data security capabilities. Further, the participants were educated on the importance of data security, maintaining data privacy, and adhering to the law.

Mr. John J. Macasio was invited as a resource speaker for the said event. Mr. Macasio is an ICT manager and an independent consultant for the development of the ILCDB-DICT National ICT Competency Standards. He also functions as the consultant for several government organizations and businesses.

During the webinar, Mr. Macasio discussed the importance and impact of a competency training on Data Privacy Act of 2012. He further informed the participants that learning content makes one accountable and responsible to deliver and support the legal obligations to protect the individual's personal data in the information and communication system of his or her government agency or business enterprise.

He also explained the importance of data handling and showed examples of individuals who were victims of data threats. Mr. Macasio thoroughly explained to the participants how important it is to remember the lifespan of a data and how it can be legally dismantled after its use and explained the risks and penalties a data handler could receive if he carelessly violates the laws on data security. He also shared the necessity of data protection and provided examples of individuals who have been the victims of data breaches.

Mr. Macasio clearly emphasized to the attendees the need to remember the lifecycle of data and how it can be legally destroyed following its usage, as well as the consequences and fines that a data handler may face if he violates data security rules negligently.

An open forum followed after the speaker’s talk. Questions were asked and answered. Data breach scenarios, social media postings, and other related concerns were among the questions asked.

Engr. Lyndon Bermoy, the MIS Unit Head and Ms. Sherry Ramayla, the Compliance Officer for Privacy (COP), facilitated the entire event.

The Guidance and Counseling Unit (GCU) upholds the important role of integrative, pragmatic, and therapeutic alliance in the improvement of student well-being. We establish this alliance through providing continuing psychosocial support to students especially in these difficult and uncertain times. During the onset of Covid19 pandemic last March 2020, GCU began to offer a Remote Psychosocial Support (RPSS) among the scholars. The e-Appointment and e-Referral Form is intended for PSHS-CRC scholars, teachers and parents for convenient access of the forms and to provide timely counseling service to our clients. Moreover, the e-appointment and e-referral forms in GCU is to help mitigate the spread of CoVid-19 by using paperless appointment and referral.

To avail of the services of the guidance and counseling unit, the student/parent/teacher/staff may access the following links:
